Spanish

Welcome to The Ray School Spanish Program
                                            K – 5
Last year 2015-2016, The Ray School started a Spanish program in 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade.

Students were exposed to the language twice a week for a total of 60 minutes for 2nd grade, and 90 minutes for 3rd and 4th grade.

This year the program has been expanded and every grade level will be learning Spanish three times a week and four times a week for 5th graders.
The program is divided into three levels: K-2 year one and  3-4 and 5, year two.

Each level contains thematic units featuring the skills that we wish to develop for each grade level. We are also focusing on making connections with classroom curriculum to make learning more meaningful for our students.
Our goal is to make this learning fun while building a strong foundation for the future.

We are both native speakers with several years of combined experience teaching at the elementary level. Because of this, we are able to teach in the target language.

We teach by using games, songs and body movements, creating an authentic environment with a great deal of authentic input to make learning a language both fun and meaningful.
This year K-2 will focus on learning basic greetings, the calendar, weather and classroom commands. In 3rd, 4th and 5th grade, students will be developing  their skills in conversational Spanish so they will be able to answer questions, write simple sentences describing people, food, objects, weather and express their feelings in the target language.

The students from 2nd grade to 5th are going to pick a Spanish name in class. Please ask your child to tell you their new Spanish name!

In the very near future, our webpage we will inform you what we had been doing during  Spanish class, so you can practice with your child at home.

¡Hasta Pronto!
